The National Security is urging Ghanaians to desist from subscribing to information circulating on social media instructing Ghanaian students and entrepreneurs to apply for UN grants ranging from GH₵150,000 to GH₵ 700,000.
The Deputy Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar who spoke on behalf of the minister of interior at the Ministry of information’s media briefing in Accra said, National Security has picked up intelligence about those behind the act and is on the hunt for them.
According to her, the National Security has picked up signals that the Cyber Criminal with mobile number 0260583702 which is behind this diabolic act has reportedly circulated a link slth-payment.blocksspot.com.
The purported criminal further promised that persons ranging from 13 to 25 years are likely to receive between GH₵ 150,000 to GH₵ 300,000 while those between 25 and 65 years are also to receive between GH₵ 400,000 and GH₵ 700,000.
But the Deputy Information Minister emphasized that “it is very untrue and the general public is advised to ignore any such communication.”
Madam Abubakar also expressed the government’s concern over the migration of some youth to Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, and Mali who are involved in a network marketing company called ‘QNET Services’ which engages in fraudulent activities.
“Upon arrival in these countries, the victims are stripped of their valuables and held hostage under nasty conditions and forced to commit to QNET services by signing a contract under duress. The only way for victims to gain their freedom is to be compelled to lure others into the business,” she said
She revealed that 3 Ghanaian youth, from Ejura in the Ashanti region, have so far been rescued from the QNET facility in Mali. This was after 1 of them escaped and lodged a complaint with the Ghana commission in Bamako.
Also, Togolese authorities in May 2021, arrested 39 Nigerian nationals operating the same scam targeted at unsuspecting job seekers from other countries.
Checks have also revealed that some Ghanaians are caught up in several QNET facilities across Mali.
Fatimatu Abubakar said, the Ghanaian commission in Bamako is liaising with the law enforcing agencies to rescue Ghanaians forcibly engaged in QNET operations in Mali.

“Given the involving nature of this scheme and its dire implication for the citizens of Ghana, involving the youth, we urged our outfit to embark on a rigorous sensitizing campaign to alert potential victims.”
She is, therefore, calling on the cooperation of the Ghanaian media to also help save potential victims from such fraudulent activities.
