Executive Director of the West Africa Centre for Counter-Extremism, Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar, says the brazen manner at which daylight armed robberies are being committed in the country should be a source of worry to everyone.
He says the incidents in recent times indicate that the security profile of the country is changing significantly, not only in the psychology of crimes within the system but also the manner in which it being conducted.
Four daylight robberies were recorded in some parts of Accra from Monday 20th September to Friday 24th September which has left residents in a fearful state and insecure of their surroundings.
The four daylight robberies happened begun on Monday with four armed men who tailed a women and robbed her at Apenkwa, on Wednesday, two robbers shot a man in the leg after withdrawing money from the bank while on Thursday, a 33 year old woman was robbed of GHS 29,000 at gun point. On Friday, at Sampa valley near Weija Barrier, gun wielding men on motorbikes also robbed a man after withdrawing money from the bank.

Mr. Muqthar in an interview monitored by ATLFMNEWS said criminals are everywhere and profiling what vulnerabilities exist for them to take advantage of.
He emphasized that it is important “we identify and recognize, the changing dynamics in terms of crime, the brazen manner in which it’s being done on a daily basis”
According to him, Ghanaians should not take for granted, when it comes to business and the issue of money-related activities.
He therefore called for commitment in terms of investment in security measures as individuals, state and organizations deal with the current security situations.
Meanwhile, the Police in Accra say they have instituted some urgent additional security measures to arrest a robbery gang attacking people within the region in recent days.
