Following accusations made against the business, the Multimedia Group Limited intends to sue Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong for defamation.
The accusations included assertions that the business sought money from the New Patriotic Party and the government over the past five years, according to an earlier warning issued to the MP.
Mr. Agyepong also indicated that the Multimedia Group was out to get the government.
“In the month of July 2021 the MP for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, made and repeated false and defamatory statements on his media platforms spurning caution issued by our lawyers on 13” July 2021.”
“Joy FM, The Multimedia Group and the Chief Executive Officer, Kwasi Twum have been compelled and have taken a firm decision to afford the MP, his media organisation and three (3) of his employees, the opportunity to prove the allegations in court,” the company said in a statement.
The lawsuit is also joined by two additional online sites that “circulated the blatant lies without concern or any effort to verify the allegations,” according to the statement.
“The broadcasts and publications falsely sought to portray [us] as unethical, unprofessional and criminal,” the company added in a statement.
The business said that the broadcasts and publications, as well as the accompanying defamatory comments, were carefully and painstakingly collected and officially transcribed and translated as part of its evidence.
Mr. Agyapong, who has previously been chastised for making irresponsible remarks, is now facing a defamation action dating back to 2017.
A High Court recently overturned an earlier decision dismissing the CEO of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors‘ defamation action against Kennedy Agyapong, which was brought in 2017.
Senyo Hosi, the CEO of the chamber, brought the defamation suit against Mr. Agyapong after he accused the chamber’s CEO of bribery.
Mr. Agyapong alleged that Mr. Hosi paid a $1 million bribe to a previous CEO of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company in order to persuade BOST to reverse a tainted gasoline transaction to two businesses.
