Alex Segbefia, a former Minister of Health, claims that the government’s grandiose plan to construct 111 hospitals (Agenda 111 ) throughout the nation is just a repackaged scheme that may never see the light of day.
Mr. Segbefia said that praising the government for an old intervention is pointless.
“We have been building hospitals in districts for a long period. From Rawlings right to the time of Mills, and to the time Mahama, so this idea of every district should have a hospital is not new. You decide to package it differently and call it Agenda 111.”
The former Minister also reiterated the Minority’s worries about the project’s insufficient financing.
“There is no funding for the project. They have not told us where they will get the funding for the project. We have been here before. The same way they promised the 88 is the same way they are promising the 111.”
Each hospital will cost $16.88 million, with $12.88 million going toward building and $4 million going toward medical equipment.
On Tuesday, the President cut the sod for the project’s start at Trede, Ashanti Region’s Atwima Kwanwoma District.
Agenda 111 is the result of a commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure after the country’s experience with the coronavirus epidemic.
Despite the budgetary allocations, the government has said that it has already set aside $100 million for start-up financing.
The projects are expected to be finished in 18 months, according to the administration.
So far, locations for 88 of the 111 hospitals have been found.
