A group calling itself Aggrieved Public Sector Workers has hinted at taking to the streets and protesting the government’s planned 4% pay increase for public sector workers.
The disgruntled employees want to see a 25% rise in public sector wages rather than a 4% increase.
Norbert Gborgbortsi, the leader of the disgruntled employees, said that “there is neither equality nor fairness in the recent pay increase.” How is it possible that others will benefit from a 79% rise while we, the taxpayers, will only get a 4% gain?”
The organization, which claims over 30,000 members, has said that it would go to the streets on Wednesday, August 18 if nothing is done to increase the 4% to at least 25%.
Mr Gborgbortsi informed that “we have previously petitioned Parliament; nothing new has come up.” Thus, we have informed the police of our plan to go to the streets, ensuring that all arrangements are in place for the government to anticipate our protest since even with all the extra taxes enacted this year, only 4% of our wages have been increased. It’s unremarkable”.
Additionally, the organization encouraged other public sector employees to join together and fight for what is rightfully theirs.
