The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will swear in Mr. Kissi Agyabeng as the next Special Prosecutor later today, Thursday, August 5, 2021.
The 43-year-old will be the second individual to hold the position following Mr. Martin Amidu, who left in November 2020 amid controversy.
Following his screening, Mr. Agyebeng was overwhelmingly authorized by Parliament on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng addressed various topics during his appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
For example, when it comes to combating corruption, Mr. Agyebeng said that he would rather concentrate on making it harder to participate in the scourge than on preventing it.
“I am not naïve to believe that I am going to put an end to corruption. I’m not going to be able to halt corruption. God will not acknowledge it, but I will make corruption very expensive to participate in.”
“First, I will implement what I call ‘Pressure for Progress,’ which will include a systematic examination of all public sector organizations and the creation of integrity plans.”
Kissi Agyebeng also said that he has no intention of following in the footsteps of his predecessor, Martin Amidu, in combating corruption in Ghana.
He said that he would depend on his own experiences and professional skills to carry out his duties as a Special Prosecutor efficiently.
“There was a reference to filling the heavy shoes of a certain person [Martin Amidu], but I would choose to wear my own shoes in the sense that I am my own man, with my own experiences and professional skills. My conscience and legal knowledge will be my guides in my quest.”
