National President of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar has asked Kumerican rapper, Yaw Tog to continue to be confident and not be afraid to express himself on any subject he feels like addressing.
This week has been a very troubling week for the Kumerican rapper, Yaw Tog who said on national television that he made UK based rapper, Stormzy more popular in Ghana, something Rex Omar has confirmed in a Facebook comment and rather jumped to his defence encouraging him to be confident and not kowtow to the negative criticisms that may follow his assertiveness.

“I made him more popular here too because people didn’t know Stormzy in Ghana here,” he told MzGee on TV3.
However, reacting to the Stormzy, Yaw Tog brouhaha, Mr Rex Omar, the “Abiba” hitmaker, has also added weight to the issue by posting on his Facebook timeline that he never knew of Stormzy until he heard him in the “Sore” remix.
He however defended him in a Facebook rant yesterday, saying the Kumerican teenage rapper has the right to express himself.
“Ah so now young artistes like YAW TOG don’t even have the right to express themselves? Why are we so quick to break down our YOUNG instead of building them up?” he wrote.
He further went on to also post that this is the first time he is hearing the featured artiste, Stormzy in Ghana.
“The first-ever time I heard of the name STORMZY in GH was through YAW TOG!”
Rex Omar claimed that Ghanaians want Yaw Tog to ‘stay timid’ so that they can call him ‘humble,’ adding that he has been there before.
“They want you [to] stay timid to call you HUMBLE. When you’re expressive and confident, they’ll call you ARROGANT. I’ve been there before. You sit here to talk down on your ARTISTES and want to compare yourself to Nigeria?”
Meanwhile, Yaw Tog has indirectly apologised for his statement.
Reacting to the backlash, Yaw Tog explained in a tweet and Instagram post that his statement was misconstrued, but life must go on.
“It’s quite unfortunate a very harmless comment I made during a recent interview has been misconstrued by a few for whatever reason but regardless, we move. It’s Big Mike on the Remix,” he wrote.
