The Central Regional Census Officer, Mr. Isaac Addae has clarified that the recruitment and selection of supervisors, enumerators and field officers for the 2021 population and housing census was based on merit.
Earlier, some individuals who not selected to participate in the exercise had described the recruitment process as unfair with politically influenced. But responding to these allegations on the ATLANTIC WAVE on Wednesday, Mr. Addae explained that the exercise was done in a more open and meritorious manner.
According to him, scores from interviews were used to cut down the huge number of Central Region applicants so that the required number could be obtained for the exercise.
He said about 6000 people in Central Region alone applied and stressed that “there were no political interferences regarding shortlisting the applicants to get dedicated individuals to do go through the process.”

Mr. Addae noted that about 3-6 member committees were formed at the various district offices who went through the interviewing process after which the raw scores were sent to the head office.
“It was given to a consultant and what he did was, he ranked the scores and then it was brought to us. So someone had 80, another had 90, and another 95. People were then selected based on their merit and where they are coming from.” He added.
The training program he said spanned 11days and there was the need for their outfit to only involve dedicated persons who through the training have the requisite knowledge about collation of data and use of technology.
