In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong said gender parity was gaining grounds in the University, noting that it was commendable because attaining appreciable gender balance in the admission of students into the distance programmes has significant socio-economic implications for the family and the society in general.
“There has been a tremendous increase in enrollment for post graduate programs over the years. For instance, there is an increase of 20 % over the last years post graduate intake. The percentage of female to male undergraduate students is 49.8 % to 50.2%. Attaining an appreciable gender balance, in admission of student into our distance education programs, has significant socio-economic implication for the family and society in general. For post graduate studies, the ratio of male to female is 45. 8% to 54.2%. This is also an encouraging signal. I edge the working class women to take advantage of convenience and flexibility the distance education offers and enroll in the programs to enhance their economic, political and social status” he explained.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the students of the University’s readiness to provide a conducive environment to propel their academic work. He further urged the fresh students to pay much attention to their studies so they achieve success at the end of their programme.
“As management of the university of cape coast, we assure you that we shall provide an academic environment that will be conducive to your studies. The commitment you make to your studies from today will determine the quality of knowledge, skills, and competencies that you acquire at the end of your program. We assure all students that the university is working to restore the academic calendar to enable students to graduate on record time” the Vice-Chancellor assured.
