United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana Ltd. has contributed over $100,000 to Ghana’s creative arts industry through the production of a 13-episode Ghanaian series named “The Public Figure.”
On the 19th of May, 2021, the bank’s Lifestyle and Entertainment channel, RED TV, will premiere the Ghanaian series on its YouTube channel. On May 14, the series’ official premiere took place at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra.
The award-winning Eddie Sedor directed the series, which was filmed, produced, and developed entirely by Ghanaian cast.
In a speech read on his behalf, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, praised UBA Ghana Ltd. for the move and urged other financial institutions to follow suit.
“When I learnt that UBA Ghana had invested US$100,000 in the Ghanaian creative arts industry through this series, I was excited about the entire initiative and its benefits to the movie industry,” he said.
“This is the type of comprehensive development that Ghana’s creative arts and tourism sectors need, and I believe their impact has the potential to spread across the tourism field and the country as a whole.”
According to Dr. Awal, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a crippling effect on Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sectors, and constructive initiatives such as the UBA Ghana initiative provide the potential to revitalise and create a positive contribution on the tourism and creative arts sectors.

The Government, and indeed my Ministry, believes that such support schemes, with private sector involvement, have become an investment that will help the tourism and creative arts industries, as well as the transformation of our economy, ultimately leading to the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ Agenda.
