Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader, claims that Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor-nominee, lacks the credentials of his mentor, Martin Amidu.
He claims that the Akufo-Addo government is set up to fail when it comes to fighting corruption, and that whoever is chosen to lead the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) will also fail.
The Tamale South MP said that the nomination was frustrating.
Mr. Iddrisu went on to say that the candidate lacked the authority and motivation to combat corruption.
“When it comes to credentials, who are you comparing yourself to? Mr. Martin Amidu is an absolute no-no. In terms of stature, competence, honesty, and credibility, he [Kissi Agyebeng] is nothing compared to Mr. Martin Amidu. To counter injustice, you need men who are strong and determined. Mr. Martin Amidu was the best fit for [the Office], but he had to resign because he couldn’t get the president’s help and support.”
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, according to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Legal Affairs Abraham Amaliba, lacks the political clout to combat public sector graft.

“I’ve previously collaborated with him, and he’s a centrist, not a hawkish sort. What I would say about him is that, as a criminal law professor, he has the academic potential to hold that position, but he lacks the media and political clout to combat public sector corruption. I’m doing this by comparing him to his predecessor, Mr. Martin Amidu, because he [Amidu] battled injustice in his former life, but Kissi Agyabeng doesn’t,” Amaliba said.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Mr. Amaliba made the remark on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily broadcast.
About Kissi Agyebeng’s nomination
Martin Amidu, who resigned from the office in November 2020, was replaced by Godfred Yeboah Dame, a law professor and private legal practitioner, who was nominated by the Attorney-General.
The Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, wrote to the Presidency that he was pleased that “Kissi Agyebeng holds the required skills on corruption and corruption-related issues, is of good moral character and demonstrated honesty, and meets all the other conditions stipulated in section 13(1) and (2) of Act 959,” and thus is the right person to fill the vacant position.
