Lawyers for Rosemond Brown, also identified as Akuapem Poloo, a jailed social network personality, have lodged an appeal against their client’s prison term.
In a nude social media post, the actress was sentenced to 90 days in prison for distributing lewd content and breaching the privacy and reputation of her 7-year-old son.
Despite the fact that she articulated her determination to stay strong and return from prison better in a video after her sentencing, several Ghanaians have characterized the jail term as tough.
As a result, the prosecutors are appealing the decision in order to render a mitigation plea and request a more lenient sentence.
Akuapem Poloo was found guilty of sharing a nude picture of herself and her seven-year-old son on social media on his birthday, June 30, 2020.
She pled guilty on the three counts and was found guilty by the judge on her own plea, after first pleading not guilty.

However, she received her punishment when an Accra circuit court found her guilty of publishing indecent content and domestic abuse.
The prosecutor, Christina Cann, bemoaned the recent spate of pornography on Ghanaian social media, insisting that Akuapem Polo’s sentence would act as a warning to others.
Appeal will be difficult’
However, considering the complexities of the case and verdict, private legal practitioner Bernard Owiredu has stated that appealing the judge’s decision would be challenging.
“It’s just part of the lawyer’s tactic, but seeing how the appeal mechanism functions, it’ll cut through the prison sentence. I believe the judge would refuse to issue bail awaiting the appeal. Since filing the appeal, the lawyer will be able to get bail awaiting the appeal. It does happen, but it is very unlikely. If not, 50 days could have elapsed by the time the appeal is heard.”
“I believe that a complete trial would have been preferable. It would be very unlikely to overturn the verdict now. Since the verdict was based on her own plea, he may only challenge the sentence, he said.
