Mr Francis Ameyibor, Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Manager, reported that journalists have been tasked with understanding the gender agenda in order to provide effective coverage for gender-sensitive, inequality and inequality reports.
“Understand and mainstream gender reporting into press media, when women in leadership analyze topics differently than their male colleagues before responding,” he said.
“Most frequently, women’s natural characteristics – sensitivity, sweetness, supportiveness, gentleness, comfort, passivity, cooperativeness, expressiveness, modesty, patience, empathy, love, tenderness, and being emotional, kind, helpful, committed, understanding, and often assertiveness – come into play in their leadership positions, which must not be misconstrued.”
Mr Ameyibor made the remarks during a working visit by a GNA Tema team to the Ada District Assembly, which is led by Ms Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, the Ada East District Chief Executive.
The GNA Tema Regional team also met with the Ada Traditional Council’s leadership to address the strategy for developing in-depth traditional news reporting based on traditional growth.
Mr. Ameyibor said that women can not be depicted as narcissistic because “there are myths from the dark ages that modern-day journalism has little place for.” The media must incorporate strategies and resources to assist reporting in mainstreaming gender awareness into news analysis as well as engaging with women in leadership roles, according to Mr. Ameyibor.
He shared concern regarding negative reporting about women in leadership, saying, “To ensure successful representation, the media must learn and appreciate the organization known as Women; sadly, some female media practitioners even cause their quest for news to outweigh gender-sensitive news coverage skills.”
Though praising the GNA Tema Regional Office for its effort to improve the Ada East District Assembly’s partnership, Ms Pobee called on the media to collaborate with the District Assemblies to strengthen the local government system.
“Women in leadership need the cooperation of others in order to produce results when carrying the whole household. We are not divorced from our families, children, women, the disadvantaged, and men; we bear the brunt of it all, and we need support to offer holistic growth.
“The pull her down syndrome will not aid in the development of our districts; we may belong to various political parties, but we all share the same goal of developing the nation. As a result, we would act in the best interests of the citizens we represent.”
Ms Pobee urged the media to play a role in national growth, saying, “We need the media to develop; we must operate together rather than across the board.”
“GNA serves as a global media forum that connects the country to the foreign community through its reliable news distribution, and Ada East is ready to get on board,” the Ada East DCE pledged to collaborate with the GNA Tema Regional Office to advertise and promote the district in order to draw the required investment.
