The Finance Minister-designate, Ken Ofori-Atta, will be vetted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee later today, March 25, 2020.
The vetting is set to begin at 10 a.m.
The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will cover the event live and feed it to other media outlets, according to a statement from Parliament.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is the only candidate still on the list of ministers proposed to Parliament for vetting by President Akufo-Addo on January 21, 2021.
He had been fighting illness and had to return to the United States for further medical attention as a result of complications after returning from COVID-19.
As a result, the committee was forced to delay his vetting, which had been set for March 8, 2021, indefinitely. However, he will return to Ghana on Monday, March 22, 2021.
According to the Finance Ministry, the Minister-designate had to return because care for his medical condition was not available in Ghana.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is scheduled to be grilled by the Appointments Committee on Ghana’s growing debt stock, the condition of the cedi, tax mobilization, the contentious Agyapa royalty agreement, and other economic concerns.
