The Asante Juaben Circuit Court has sentenced a 23-year-old driver’s mate to five years in jail for a robbing spree at Hemang in the Afigya-Kwabre South District.
The driver’s mate, Sarfo Kusi and some accomplices, who are still at large, are accused of breaking into many homes in the community and stealing different objects.
He was unfortunate, when some of the community’s youth managed to apprehend him in the middle of the act in one of the buildings.
Kusi pled guilty and was found guilty in his own plea by Madam Rosemarie Afua Asante’s judge.
Police Inspector Richard Effah, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant was the Unit Committee Chairman of Hemang’s Ablade electoral area.
He claimed that on March 14th, at approximately 2300 hours, the complainant left his room to attend to nature’s call.
According to the prosecutor, upon his return, he met the suspect and his accomplices in his room, where they stuffed cell phones, decoders, flat screen television sets, and GHc 1,200.00 into a sack.

The plaintiff raised an alarm, and several residents raced to the scene, where the prisoner was apprehended, according to Inspector Effah.
He reported that his accomplices battled the plaintiff and the neighbors, saved the prisoner, and then fled together.
The prisoner was apprehended in the process of performing similar operations in the area, according to the indictment, and was detained at the Ankaase Police Station.
According to the prosecutor, the victim went to the police department and named the prisoner as the person who assaulted him at his home.
During questioning, the prisoner confessed to the crime, according to Inspector Effah, and was convicted and taken before the judge.
