The disappointment of the movie industry, according to film pundit Ola Michael, can not be blamed on a lack of digitization.
While digital platforms for movie streaming have become the standard, not every Ghanaian can afford it due to the amount of data involved, according to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
“One of the reasons why lack of digitization cannot be our only solution is that the amount of data used to watch a film is greater than the amount used to listen to music.”
“You may have about 5 to 10 megabytes of data for music, but you are talking about gigs for video, and the MTN 10 data kit is about 900 megabytes.”
Ola Michael believes it is critical for Ghanaian content to reach every person without relying solely on digital platforms.
He said that prior to Covid-19, many people were warming to the idea of seeing Ghanaian films in theaters.

The movie producer clarified that the theatre used to be a no-go area for some Ghanaians who thought it was just for the wealthy.
Prior to Covid-19, however, “we were gathering ourselves into the theatre scene” from 2019 to 2020, he said.
Ola Michael encouraged moviegoers not to berate filmmakers and creatives who are trying to find other ways to distribute their films than via streaming services.
