A nine-year-old boy was killed during a festival rite in the Central Region’s Awutu Bereku.
Calvis Tetteh, Citi News’ Central Regional Correspondent, said that the child was killed while performing rites in the village ahead of the Awutu Awubia festival.
Two more people were wounded in the process and were sent to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment.
“Early this morning, a nine-year-old boy was shot dead by some persons who were following the traditional priest of the town. They were following the traditional priest and firing gunshots as a form of recognition of the traditional priest. The guns held by one of the men suddenly went off and killed the nine-year-old boy,” Calvis explained.
According to the Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joshua Semanyo, the culprit has been apprehended.
Calvis stated that people were outraged by the event, which had ruined the festival.
There is currently a large police presence on the festival’s durbar grounds.
