An 8-member Adhoc committee has been given seven days to investigate the minority caucus’ vote of censure against the finance minister. Mr. Ken Ofori Atta.
The committee drawn from both the majority and minority sides is to report their findings back to the house for a decision to be taken on the matter.
The majority side includes Okaikoi Central MP, Yaw Boahmah, Ashanti Akyem Central MP, Emmanuel Anyimadu-Antwi, and Sekondi MP, Andrew Egyapa Mercer while the minority side includes North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Klottey-Korle MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Akatsi South MP, Bernard Ahiafor.
The committee will be chaired by Adansi Asokwa MP, K.T. Hammond, and Bolgatanga East MP, Dominic Ayine.
Speaker of Parliament Mr. Alban Bagbin who ruled for the vote of censure motion by the minority to be referred to the 8-member committee said “‘What I can do at this time is to allow the motion to be seconded and I will give opportunity for it to be responded to by our standing orders which I can interpret. The matter will be referred to an ad hoc committee to be investigated.”
According to him, the finance minister will be given ample opportunity to defend himself in the vote of censure motion and also be allowed to appear before the committee with a counsel.
The speaker’s ruling was after the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin challenged the motion of the Minority and moved for the house to discontinue the application for the vote of censure adding that the finance minister should be given a fair hearing.
