Rev Ameyaw Ebenezer Saka, Head of Church Relations with the National Cathedral project, stated that a total of $50 million had been raised so far for the project.
The goal is to raise $100 million dollars.
In an interview with Dzifa Bampoh on 3FM’s First Take on Monday, August 2, he urged the general public to continue making voluntary donations to guarantee the project’s successful conclusion.
Rev Saka went on to say that the national cathedral would revitalize Ghana’s tourist industry while also creating employment for Ghanaians.
“This is going to bring huge tourism in this country, a lot of people are going to get jobs and we will see tourism having a facelift,”
When asked how much money has been put aside for the whole project, he said, “At the start, before the Biblical Garden and the Bible Museum, it was targeted at a hundred million dollars; now that it has been added, it will be a little more.” I can’t say how much it will be, but it will be more than a hundred million dollars.
“How much it has come in? Thank God we have gotten a seed amount from the state and also with the various fundraising we held in Accra in December 2018, in Washington in 2019, and also in Kumasi in January 2020, we have had a quite amount of money.
“I think that about half of the hundred million.”
He added, “The requested voluntary contributions are very important because we want to have the ordinary Ghanaian to own this project, ordinary Christian to own this project so your contributions come in to help facilitate the project.”
When the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, presented the mid-year budget review on Friday, July 29, he announced that the government will start an initiative in which Ghanaians would be able to pay GHS100 each month to assist the Cathedral’s construction.
The project is called ‘Ketoa Biaa Nsua,’ which means “no amount is too little.”
“It is via this program that the government would ask Ghanaians to contribute GHS100 per month to help it stay on track.
“…this state and church partnership envisaged by the president to develop the National Cathedral is on course. An initiative; the GHC100 a month also dubbed ‘Ketoa Biaa Nsua’ will be launched by the trustees of the National Cathedral on August 12, 2021, to give as many Ghanaians as possible the opportunity to be part of the history of the National Cathedral,” he said.
