Five Chinese suspects have been arrested in connection with the Ellembelle Missing Excavators in the Western region.
The Ghana Police Service in a social media post on Thursday dawn said the five Chinese suspects were arrested in a special police operation done between the night of September 7 and the dawn of September 8, 2022.
This comes after the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle was arrested during the retrieval of one of the missing excavators.
According to the police, “while the team of police officers were escorting the excavator to Takoradi, at the Axim Junction, the DCE of Ellembelle, Mr. Kwasi Bonzo organized and led some thugs to attack the police and obstruct the operation. The DCE and three others were therefore arrested accordingly.”
Mr. Kwasi Bonzo was subsequently charged with assault, conspiracy to commit assault, and resisting arrest.
He, together with the 3 others are expected to appear before the Takoradi Circuit Court on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
