Nana Akufo-Addo has said that the deadly coronavirus pandemic is responsible for the delay in the start of construction on the Damango Water Project, which is estimated to cost $49 million.
The President, who cut the sod for the project’s commencement in 2020, stated that although finances were available, the epidemic rendered it impossible to begin.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the project would start in August 2021 at a meeting with the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area as part of his two-day business tour to the Savannah Region.
“As you are aware, I have already cut the sod for the start of the Damongo water project, which took place last year. However, the terrible COVID-19 illness has caused a delay in the project’s completion. However, I am pleased to tell you that contractors will begin working on the site in the first week of August,” the President said.
After completion, the project will provide potable water to the following communities: Yipala, Banyasi, Ntereso, Fulfoso, Sumpini, Busunu, Kebiesu, Tailorpe, Alhassan Kura, Jonokponto, Achubunyo, Soalepe, Canteen, Frafra Settlement No.3, Boroto, and Nabori, in addition to Damongo township.

Because the Region has major tourist attractions like the Mole National Park, Larabanga Mosque, and the Mystic Stone, President Akufo-Addo is optimistic that the initiative would help relieve poverty and enhance the living conditions of the recipient communities.
The President emphasized that the Damongo Water Project is in accordance with the government’s objective of providing “Water for All,” and that the government would not stop in its efforts to achieve this goal.
Yendi Water Supply Project in the Northern Region; Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area Water Supply Project in the Ashanti Region; Kpong Phase II in the Eastern Region; Tarkwa Water Supply Project in the Western Region; Sekondi Takoradi Water Supply Project in the Western Region are currently under construction in response to the rising demand for water in the underlisted areas.
The other projects include the Volta Region’s Keta Water Supply Project, the Bono East Region’s Techiman Water Supply Project, the Bono Region’s Sunyani Water Supply Project, the Bono Region’s Wenchi Water Supply Project, and the Central Region’s Assin Fosu Water Supply Project.
