Three people have been arrested for reportedly murdering a 30-year-old man, Albert Anyinado, and trying to sell his corpse for GHS 7,000 to a traditional priest.
The suspects, 42-year-old Kalefe Korku, 21-year-old Afedo Kpotor, and 27-year-old Ametoke Sitsofe, allegedly called a fetish priest in Agbozume to find a buyer for a dead body in their possession.
According to DSP Effia Tenge, Public Relations Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, in a press release, the police pretended to be interested and bargained to purchase the dead body after receiving a tip, which led to the arrest.
“The buyer agreed to meet the suspect at Agavedzi near the lagoon to receive the dead body. But suspects upon sighting the police abandoned the dead body and bolted.”
Police then tracked down and apprehended all three suspects at their homes in Agavedzi, Agbozume, and Adina.
The corpse has now been placed to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital morgue, pending an autopsy, while the suspects are still being investigated.
