It should also be noted that approximately 26,000 people have been displaced as a result of the Akosombo dam overflow in several villages in the Volta and Eastern regions.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) started controlled leaking from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, in response to a continuous rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.
The leakage has caused thousands of residents’ homes in Asuogyaman, North Tongu, Central Tongu, South Tongu, and other areas to flood.
