The Chiefs and People of the Oguaa Traditional Area have launched the highly anticipated 2024 Oguaa Fetu Afahye in grand style.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival is one of the biggest celebrations in the Central Region that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Fante people and a time to show gratitude to the 77 gods of Oguaa.
This year’s celebration marks the 60th edition on the theme, Celebrating the City of the First: Our People Our Culture.
The celebration also coincided with the unveiling of the 60th-anniversary logo which depicts the Oguaa Symbol; the Crab as a strong icon of authority.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairperson of the Planning Committee for the 2024 Oguaa Fetu Afahye, Mrs. Charlotte Osei described the theme as apt because it highlights the rich past of the people of Cape Coast and connects them to the future.
She says the Oguaa Traditional Council’s selection of the theme is befitting adding that the people of Cape Coast must use the 2024 Fetu Afahye as a launchpad to rebuild Cape Coast.
To her, the misconceptions that “Oguaa w)nny3” which means Oguaa people are not good must be laid to rest.
“… The people of Cape Coast are good. We have a rich history. We have too many achievements to call ourselves a bad people…Ghana was birthed in Oguaa and without Oguaa, Ghana would not have independence,” she continued.
Mrs. Charlotte Osei indicated that the responsibility to rebuild Cape Coast lies with its people, and the festival will be a time to come together and work towards a better future for the city.
She therefore urged the indigenes to contribute their quota in making the festival a success.
