Nkum No. 4 Asafo Company has once again proven that on the race course, they always remain champions, as it emerged on Tuesday, August 29, at the annual ATLFM Oguaa Fetu Afahye Regatta (Canoe Race).
Nkum No. 4 Asafo Company has won the title two consecutive times, and they were declared victors with 8 points for the third time after three heated canoe races.
Their fellow competitors, Anaafo Number 2, garnered 7 points, and Bentsir Number 1 obtained 4 points.

In all, three Asafo Companies participated in the contest, including Bentsir 1, Anaafo Number 2, and Nkum Number 4.
Nkum Number 4 tells ATLFM News that determination and prayers afforded them the opportunity to win the contest for the third time.
“Before this race, I organised my group and promised that I would do this and that for them if they won, so they were determined to win. This is what we do every year, before the race; we organize them, make sure they are united, pray together for victory in our shrine, and we’ve won,” Opanyin Nana Mensah, leader of the Nkum Asafo Company, said.
The event held at the Cape Coast Community Gardens on the second day of the activities earmarked for the 2023 Oguaa Fetu Afahye did not only have the traditional leaders who always grace the occasion with their presence but also a wide range of people including the young and old citizens of Cape Coast, students, the security, hawkers and as well as tourists from other parts of the world.
Though many of the attendees had a wonderful experience, they believe more can be done to make the experience better in the coming years.
One gentleman said, “…Going forward, you should have a way of having a platform that will stretch enough for viewers to at least get to see what is going on.”
“If you plan it in a way that will afford a lot of people to see it from afar it will be a great experience.” another said.
Meanwhile, the Event Committee Chairperson of the Campus Broadcasting Services (CBS), Joseph Bennett popularly called Don Kay believes the event was successful despite some hitches that were recorded.
He assured that measures would be put in place to address the loopholes that were identified.
“…so we need to see to the audience and see how we can expand the space for them to enjoy.” he continued.
The Oguaa Fetu Afahye Regatta is organised by ATL FM with sponsorship support from the Environmental Justice Foundation (Sustainable Oceans Project), Bel Beverages, and Deray Man Bitters.
