This afternoon, thousands of indigenes of Cape Coast and visitors alike are thronging the Community Gardens to witness the 2023 ATLFM Regatta, one of the many activities earmarked for the commemoration of the 2023 Fetu Afahye.
The annual event which is a boat race prominently features the various Asafo Companies in Cape Coast competing for a trophy and cash prize and other prizes.
This year, Bentsir No.1, Anaafo No. 2 and Nkum No.4 will be competing to win the coveted trophy as the fastest group on the lagoon.
The event forms part of ATL FM’s effort to support the local fishing industry and to promote unity among the various Asafo companies in Cape Coast.
On Tuesdays, ATLFM 100.5 MHz airs Egyanom Afarifo, a fishing programme where relevant stakeholders share their knowledge in the fishing industry in Ghana while educating, promoting and encouraging proper fishing practices among fishmongers in the metropolis, the region and the country at large.
As such, it is prudent that during the Afahye festivities on Tuesday, when the Nananom engage in the Bakatue, it just sits well for the station to also augment it by organizing the Regatta to collectively push the agenda of the festival to the outside world.
After three competitive races in the 2022 ATLFM Oguaa Fetu Afahye Regatta, the Nkum Number 4 Asafo Company emerged winners while Anaafo Number 2 placed second with Bentsir number 1 taking the third position in the canoe race.
This year we await the surprise winners. Will it be Nkum Number 4 Asafo Company again or a surprise will be seen.
Join the excitement of this year’s REGATTA powered by ATLFM and sponsored by Environmental Justice Foundation and Bel-Beverages on Tuesday, 29th August 2023 at the Community Gardens, Cape Coast.
