After dropping earlier accusations that had been rejected by the court, the state has filed fresh charges against the Head Pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev. Owusu Bempah, and two others.
The pastor and the other two defendants, Bright Berchie and Mensah Ofori, have been on trial for more than three weeks after they produced and distributed numerous videos including alleged threats, weapon displaying, and assault on police officers.
Last Monday, the three were given bail in the amount of GHS 200,000, with two sureties each.
The prosecution in the case, however, replaced the accusations and slammed the accused with counts of offensive behavior contributing to a breach of peace and death threat.
According to the prosecutor, the cases needed to be split in order to expedite the trial and modify the charges.
The three have pleaded not guilty to the additional accusations, with the court giving Reverend Owusu Bempah self-recognizance bail of GHS 100,000, and the two others bail of GHS 100,000 each with two sureties.
This case has been rescheduled for November 10, 2021.
In the other case, Rev Owusu Bempah, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum were charged with inflicting injury and unlawful damage to a police car and were given GHS 400,000 bail.
They were summoned to appear in court on November 15, 2021, for these accusations.
